What this site collects, and who gets it

Privacy

Last updated 2 November 2026.

Hereabouts shows which plants are native where you live and who sells them. You don't need an account, and there are no ads. This page lists everything the site collects, why, and who receives it.

Your location

If you enter a ZIP code or the name of a city or county, the site looks it up in a file it downloads from this site, so what you typed never leaves your browser.

If you enter a street address, it goes to the US Census Bureau, which tells the site your county. We never see or save the address. The Census Bureau's own privacy policy covers what it receives.

Your device then remembers your county and a location rounded to about 1 km, so the site knows where you are next time. Press Clear to remove them. Site statistics record your county, as described below.

Site statistics

We use a service called PostHog to count how people use the site, so we can tell which parts work. Its requests go through this site's own address. It records:

PostHog stores a random ID in a cookie and in your browser's storage, so that visits on different days count as one visitor. The ID is not linked to your name or email. We don't record your screen or what you type, and we don't sell what we collect or use it for advertising.

Links to sellers

Links to sellers tell the seller the visit came from this site, and carry your broad natural region. Some are affiliate links, explained in the affiliate disclosure. Once you are on a seller's site, its own privacy policy applies.

Other services that see your internet address

Your browser contacts these services directly, so each one sees your internet address:

Email

The site does not ask for your email yet. We will update this page before it does.

Children

The site is not aimed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect anything from them.
